THERE’S A SILVER LINING TO EVERY CLOUD AND HOW A SMILE AFFECTS YOU AND OTHERS

There is an expression that we have heard of and it is  “Every cloud has a silver lining.” The meaning and origin of this phrase is as follows:

The Meaning

“Every bad situation has some good aspect to it. “This proverb is usually said as an encouragement to a person who is overcome by some difficulty and is unable to see any positive way forward.”

Origin

“John Milton coined the phrase ‘silver lining’ in Comus: A Mask Presented at Ludlow Castle, 1634”

“I see ye visibly, and now believe

That he, The Supreme Good, to whom all things

ill

Are but as slavish officers of  vengeance

Would send a glistering guardian, if need were

To keep my life and honour unassailed

Was I deceived, or did a sable cloud

Turn forth her silver lining on the night?

I did not err; there does a sable cloud

Turn forth her silver lining on the night,

And casts a gleam over this tufted grove.”

“‘Clouds and ‘silver linings’ were referred to often in literature from then onward, usually citing Milton and frequently referring to them as Milton’s clouds. It isn’t until the days of the uplifting language of Victoria’s England that we begin to hear the proverbial form that we are now familiar with-‘every cloud has a silver lining’. The first occurrence that is unequivocally expressing that notion comes in The Dublin Magazine, Volume 1, 1840, in a review of the novel review Marian; or, a Young Maid’s Fortunes, by Mrs. S. Hall, which was published in 1840:

As Katty Macane has it, “there’s a silver lining to every cloud that sails about the heavens if we could only see it.”

‘There’s a silver lining to every cloud’ was the form that the proverb was usually expressed in the Victorian era. The currently used ‘every cloud has a silver lining’ did appear, in another literary review, in 1849. The New monthly belle assembl`ee, Volume 31 include what purported to be a quotation from Mrs Hall’s book – “Every cloud has a silver lining”, but which didn’t in fact appear in Marian, which merely reproduced Milton’s original text.”

In my opinion, this saying is true. You see there really is a silver lining to every cloud and a lot of times we might not see the silver lining right away but for every cloud there will be a silver lining. Some examples of this saying are as follows:

Someone tells we can’t accomplish something

We might not accomplish what we want to do right away but the silver lining here it will be accomplished in the future.

We suffer the loss of a loved one and/or friend

It’s hard to find a silver lining here but there is one. It will take some time before we see it but the silver lining will eventually show up.

Becoming unemployed

If you ever been unemployed then you know it’s no fun. The silver lining here is you will get another job, retire or better yet start your own business.

Being Single

It’s hard to see the silver lining here especially if you’ve been single for quite some time. Remember the silver lining might be you find the right person and get married or you just stay single.

When a situation comes up in our lifetime, we shouldn’t think a bad situation is bad but think of it as a good thing because really if we think about it they’re stepping-stones to our destination. These stepping-stones that we may consider roadblocks make us stop and ask ourselves is this what we really want? Of course, this is a question that can have many answers and that’s because everyone has to answer this question every time a situation comes up.

You may be going through a situation that’s making you take a step back and ask is this what I really want? If you aren’t asking this question, then you either have already answered this question or your situation that caught you off guard is a good situation. Sometimes good situations do catch us off guard and make us ask the same question.

My hope for everyone is that you will have more good situations than bad situations. I want everyone to try to smile when you have both good and bad situations. I know it’ll be hard to smile through bad situations but if you do, you’ll find it’ll make it easier to get through your bad situation. It’s usually pretty easy to smile when you’re in a good situation but when you’re in a bad situation it’s not as easy.

Smiling through all situations that come our way will not only make us feel better and put us in a better mood. Smiling also makes other people want to be around us more.

In my opinion when you smile, I think you will find that people treat you better than when you aren’t smiling. So smile through both good and bad situations and you’ll go far. How far is up to you. If you smile through the bad then hopefully your reward will be that you have more good situations than bad situations. Also in my experience, I have found a smile will change your attitude from bad to good.  Even when you’re in a really bad mood and/or just plain having a terrible day you may be asking? Especially smile when you’re in a terrible mood and/or just having a terrible day because it will not only change your attitude but people will notice the change in you.

Let me share a tip about smiling and that tip is even if you have to put a fake smile on your face to change people’s attitude toward you, you will find even a fake smile will help your attitude. How do I Know? I’ve put a fake smile on my face many times and it actually did change my attitude and how other people viewed me. What happened when I smiled? It was contagious and made people ask why are you smiling?

Remember, Smiling is contagious and does have benefits. If you would like to learn more about smiling and the benefits you can go to THERE’S A SILVER LINING TO EVERY CLOUD AND HOW A SMILE AFFECTS YOU AND OTHERS. This link provides several links you can learn about why you should smile and the benefits a smile provides.

🙂🙂Do me a favor, Smile no matter what and you will be rewarded.🙂🙂

Cute picture of your cat with their tongue hanging out. Your right, it’s funny.

The Joyful Soul

Sometimes the cats forget to put their tongues away. It’s funniest when they stop part way through washing themselves and leave their tongues hanging most of the way out. Silly, cute things.

UNSUNG HEROES VS. GUARDIAN ANGELS

Everyone has a hero or heroes they may look up to daily. But can they say they have an unsung hero in their lives? Everyone has to answer this question daily. The way I answer this question is like this. My heroes are my parents and when my grandparents were alive, they were also my heroes. As for my unsung heroes, well I would say that would be my parents. Since day 1 they have not only encouraged me but helped me strive to meet my goals.  For example, when I became unemployed when the store closed its doors, they have helped me work through being unemployed. Also, some other examples might be when the son and/or daughter finds themselves as a caregiver because the roles are switched and the children must take care of the parents. This would have to be tough.  I haven’t had to deal with that with my parents yet.

Unsung heroes mean something different to each of us but to me it means someone who should be recognized for something but rarely gets the deserved recognition they deserve.

I know everyone believes something different and that’s why we have choices. Let’s think about something for a moment and that is where you find an unsung hero, you will usually find an angel. Why is that? In my opinion, it’s mainly because your unsung heroes could be your guardian angels.

Guardian angels are great. I have had one since the day I was born. Let me give you an example. I was working one day and fell backwards. No big deal except that right beside me where I fell was a glass table with a metal base. I feel my guardian angel guided my fall and let me fall on the marble floor and not on the metal base of the table. I could give many more examples but will not.

As you probably figured out that I believe in guardian angels and they play an important role in our daily life. Also, you will find that Unsung Heroes And Guardian Angels go hand in hand.

Above in the pictures is one of my unsung heroes, my Dad playing with the cat.

WHAT DOES FAMILY MEAN TO ME?

What does family mean to me? I think this is a question we all ask ourselves several times in our lives. I ask myself this question everyday and come up with a different answer each day. I am just thankful that I have a family that is loving and supportive. Above are some pictures of family and yes some of those pictures will have pets in them because in our family our pets are part of the family. I hope you enjoy the pictures. You will notice I put in a picture of a ring and that is because my brother-in-law and his two girls went to a Steelers Game against Philadelphia Eagles and the guy who was working at the game felt sorry for my niece so he showed her his Superbowl ring and let her try it on. Cool Huh!?

I have 4 beautiful nieces and 1 handsome nephew. From oldest to youngest and their names are: Emily, Allison, Kaitlin, Alyssa and Dylan.

My faith gets me through each day and helps me overcome a lot in the situations that may come my way.

As you can see, Family means a lot to me and so do my pets. Also, the animals we outside and around our place mean a lot to my family and I too. You see, we feed these animals just like we feed our pets. Even though these outdoor animals aren’t our pets, they come around for food and water.FullSizeRender (18)

HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!!

As you know today is St. Patrick’s Day. Today is the day where Irish and Non-Irish people where green and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Me, I’m part Irish so I celebrate in my own little way. I spend the day with my cat, Daisy Mae and both of my parents.

I hope the Luck Of The Irish falls on all of you. Maybe you will even find a four-leaf clover today. I didn’t find a four-leaf clover today but that’s OK.
