Growing Up Without A Computer Or Cell Phone

INTRODUCTION AND WELCOME

Welcome Everyone to my blogWELCOME TO CRYSTAL’S SITE(ORIGINALLY COUNTRY LIVING). I want to tell you about my experience growing up without a computer and/or a cell phone.

When I grew up believe it or not computers and cell phones weren’t a big thing. In fact, when I was growing up I remember playing with my two younger sisters who just happen to be fraternal twins with personalities that are like day and night and we played with the other children that lived on the street. I even remember walking up town to the little grocery store where you could even get penny candy for an afternoon. I lived in a time when you didn’t need to lock your doors. That changed when a rapist moved in across the street from us( that could be another post entirely.

WHAT IT WAS LIKE GROWING UP WITHOUT A COMPUTER OR A CELL PHONE

I have to be honest with you entirely, it wasn’t bad growing up without computers or cellphones in my opinion mostly because I had other children to play with from our street or I played with my sisters. I even remember going to slumber parties. Eventually my parents got one of those old-fashioned bag car phone by Trac Phone. I really never missed having one until I got older. That’s when I started asking my parents for a computer.

WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I STOPPED ASKING FOR A COMPUTER

As I mentioned previously, when I became older meaning in my 20’s  I started really wanting a computer. Every time I asked my mom would ask me what do you want a computer for? Each time I would tell her the same thing which was for e-mailing my friends. After years of not getting a computer or cell phone I stopped asking for the computer. I really never asked for a cell phone because I thought why have a cell phone when you already have a computer. You see, I thought I was thinking logically or so I thought. When I stopped asking for my computer I think my parents were relieved LOL and waited several years to see if I would start asking again. I didn’t.  My parents eventually rewarded me for waiting several years.

WHEN I GOT MY COMPUTER AND MY REWARD

I never got my first computer until I was 40+ years old. OK I know some of you think you waited how long(gasp!!) I know to some of you that might seem like an eternity but was well worth it. Let me explain. You see  just because I waited several years for my computer doesn’t mean I stopped wanting one. I just thought after asking for so long and not getting my computer I was never going to get one. Boy was I ever wrong. One Christmas, I opened all my small gifts first which is what I normally do unless I decide to change things up. I kept going over and over in my mind what my big gifts could be. It never crossed my mind it would be a computer and a computer case. I was so excited that I was jumping up out my chair and screaming thank you, thank you, thank you to my Mom and Dad and my youngest sister got me a computer case. If I would have opened the computer case first I would have known what the second gift was and probably wouldn’t have been excited either. I was thrilled to get a computer.

HOW LONG MY FIRST COMPUTER LASTED

My first computer which was an Acer computer and it was bought at Best Buy lasted me 3-4 years then it literally crashed. I couldn’t believe it. So I looked around for a second computer. Eventually found one sale at Staples.

HOW LONG MY SECOND COMPUTER LASTED

My second was an upgrade from my last computer. My second computer was bought at Staples too and was a Dell. It also was a Windows 8 and my first computer was a Windows 7. I eventually upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 10( I got the free upgrade). My second computer eventually went after 3-4 years. Found out later that the motherboard on my computer went. The technological guy said when the motherboard goes that’s when you should buy a new computer because it costs more to fix than to buy a computer. And to think I just took it in because the cord wouldn’t hold a charge. Who would’ve thought something so simple would turn into something so difficult. I sure didn’t. Since I already had my computer they tried to pull off as much stuff as they were able to off my computer and put it on a flash drive. I got another computer that day with another upgrade.

HOW LONG MY THIRD COMPUTER LASTED

My third computer and hopefully my last is still working and running. I’ve had my computer for two years now and learning something new each day. When I bought my new computer which is a Lenovo ideapad 320S, it had Windows 10 pre-installed and other new things which I have yet to learn. I love my Lenovo computer.

ARE THOSE ADD ONS REALLY NECESSARY?

If you ever bought a computer and I think most of you have, then you know once you’ve chosen your computer they start asking you do you want to buy the extra add ons? A lot of people don’t buy them because they think I don’t really need this and believe me I’m guilty of thinking this too. When I bought my first add-on I never thought I was never going to use it. Guess what? I used it. It would’ve cost me an arm and a leg if I wouldn’t have had it. My computer was my Birthday/Christmas gift from my parents and they bought the extra add ons and McAfee Live Safe anti-virus to install on my computer. Hope I don’t need it but at least I have it in case something should happen.

CONCLUSION

In my opinion, before turning down the technological associate for add-ons that might save you money in the long run, think of how much it will cost you to fix that cord and/or computer and compare the costs. Trust me $100 for the cost of an add-on you may never use but what if something unexpected happens and you do need it. $100 will be like a drop in the bucket compared to what that cord or computer will cost you and trust me it will be more than $100. So my suggestion, GET THE ADD ONS THERE WORTH EVERY PENNY!!

#Bullying, #Depressing News, #Be Positive

Everyone has their routine and something tells me watching the news falls in your routine somewhere. If it doesn’t, you’re lucky because the news is usually depressing anyway unless you have something like Royal wedding or a bunch of ducklings being rescued from a sewer drain and reunited with the mother duck(which actually did happen).

In my part of the world(don’t know about yours) the news is talking about bullying, sexual assault accusations, Trump canceling and un-canceling the summit with North Korea,  a lot of protesting over blacks getting shot and even more depressing news which I’m not going to list. I’m not trying to be mean but if you don’t follow commands you might get shot.

#BULLYING

#Bullying is very real. Bullying not only happened when I went to school and it happened a lot. Only Back then it wasn’t called bullying it was called being picked on continuously. Today some children that are bullied they take what they think the easy way out which is suicide. Also, please note that bullying can lead to sexual assaults. I found 2 flow charts on dealing with bullying. Actually, the charts deal with bullying and suicide. The charts are below. Please note that most of the time  the percentage of girls who thought about suicide and/or attempted suicide is higher than the boys.

THIS CHART IS ABOUT SUICIDE RATES, BY REGION. ’05 TO ’14.

#DEPRESSING NEWS

#Depressing News is very real. I hate to say it but if you watch the news then your bound to come across depressing news daily. Actually, my solution to this problem is simple don’t watch the news. Oh I know what your probably thinking how am I supposed to find out the weather? Ever hear of a smart phone or a computer. Most of you have a smart phone and/or computer so check the weather that way. I found a link online that sends me Weather Updates twice a day, Amber Alerts(if there are any), Weather Alerts when warnings and/or watches are issued for the county I live in( which is Butler County), I get notified when there are recalls and so much more. I love this link.

#POSITIVE SOLUTIONS

#Positive Solutions is actually very simple.  I’m sure there are more positive solutions than what I’m going to list but if you think of additional solutions that’s great. Also, please feel free to let me know by using the contact form or comment form below my solutions.

MY SOLUTIONS FOR BULLYING

  1. Don’t bully anyone yourself.
  2. Try to prevent bullying before harm comes to either party.
  3. Keep encouraging your child or young adult and encourage the person who’s doing the bullying and you might see a change but there’s never any guarantees.
  4. Stay positive and give a friendly smile no matter what you’re feeling about the person.
  5. If you know that someone is think about committing suicide, GET THEM HELP RIGHT AWAY!!
  6. Learn the signs of someone wanting to commit suicide. One main sign is:
  • When they start giving their stuff away for no reason.

MY SOLUTIONS FOR DEPRESSING NEWS

  1. Don’t watch it.
  2. Only watch the non-depressing news(if there is any).
  3. Focus on the positive.
  4. Repeat 1, 2, & 3.

Do’s And Don’ts Of Flashlight Safety

WELCOME

Hello and welcome to WELCOME TO CRYSTAL’S SITE(ORIGINALLY COUNTRY LIVING). I would like to talk to you about the Do’s And Don’ts Of Flashlight Safety. I can just here what some of you may be thinking and that is What do I need to know about flashlight safety? What you need to know may surprise you.

INTRODUCTION

As I mentioned briefly in the welcome flashlight safety is important. You see growing up as a child my father was a Safety Director. I learned a lot from him and I’m still learning from him. For example, just the other night I learned something about flashlight safety I didn’t know. I’ll get into that later in my post. You guessed it, flashlight safety is more than going to a store, picking out the color of flashlight you want and paying for it. Now on to the DO’s And Don’ts Of Flashlight Safety. I’m going to start with the Don’ts.

FLASHLIGHT DON’TS

  1. Don’t leave batteries in flashlights or anything else when it’s not going to be in use for a while.
  2. Don’t shove your flashlight under your bed or somewhere thinking you’ll be using it sometime soon. Take it from me the likelihood of that happening is slim and none.
  3. Don’t wait to your flashlight goes completely out to replace the batteries.  If the light on your flashlight is getting dim then it’s time to replace the batteries. Remember, you never know when the electric will go out so be prepared.
  4. Don’t wait to your battery gets corrosive to replace batteries. If your batteries are corrosive then it could hurt the workings of the flashlight.
  5. If for some reason your flashlight battery is past being corrosive and if you’re not sure then here is an example that happened to me. The other night I was looking for birthday cards and pictures when I came across a flashlight I had shoved under my bed. Guess what? That flashlight I found was completely ruined because it was past corrosive. In fact, There was a white powder on the book from the flashlight. As soon as I showed it to Dad he told me what the white powder was and to wash my hands immediately. The white powder was battery acid in a powdered form. When you see this white powder, trash your flashlight and wash your hands with soap and water. I’m showing you 3 different to show you what your should and shouldn’t look like. These pictures may look the same but it’s to show you which flashlights are bright, dim and dead.

SHOWING FLASHLIGHTS THAT ARE BRIGHT, DIM AND DEAD WITHOUT ANY ZOOM.
DSCN0515
SHOWING FLASHLIGHTS THAT ARE BRIGHT, DIM AND DEAD WITH MEDIUM ZOOM.
DSCN0516
SHOWING FLASHLIGHTS THAT ARE BRIGHT, DIM AND DEAD ON FULL ZOOM.

FLASHLIGHT DO’S

  1. First, after buying a flashlight and of course some backup flashlights too. When you get home with your flashlights first decide if you’re going to use all of them if not then only put batteries in the ones to be used.
  2. Buy a flashlight with a very bright light. Usually the flashlights with other things on it and are made if you’re caught alongside the road will do.
  3. If you are able, try to make sure there is a flashlight in every room if not almost every room.
  4. Do buy a lantern and/or a portable light that can be used when the electric goes out.

These are just a few of the Do’s and Don’ts of Flashlight Safety.

Pets Overload has honored WELCOME TO CRYSTAL’S SITE(ORIGINALLY COUNTRY LIVING) and CRYSTAL AND DAISY MAE’S PHOTO-BLOGGING SITE with the SUPAWSTARS SPOTLIGHT AWARD. Why is this award so special to Daisy Mae and I? Probably because this award is given to pet and animal blogs in recognition of a pawsome job from one pet blogger to another.

RULES:

  • You are to choose 5 pet bloggers and link to their blogs and describe why each of them deserves this award.
  • You must encourage the pet bloggers to shout out 5 bloggers themselves.
  • You must leave a comment on their blogs letting them know you’ve given them the spotlight.

I follow several good animal blogs so it’s hard to pick just 5.  Please note I will give this award out many times so if you don’t get the award this time you may get it another time. Since I will be awarding this early this month, I’ll be skipping March with the award.

MY NOMINEES ARE:

  1. Tails Around The Ranch
  • I have nominated Tails Around The Ranch because their blog is about a pawsome pooch and a the adventures of a pet therapy team. Helping pets deserves an award in my book.

2. Hands on Bowie

The Smart Girl’s Guide to Surviving Her Twenties Book Review

DSCN0420INTRODUCTION:

Around My Birthday and Christmastime, I was fortunate to win a book by Courtney Livingston called The Smart Girl’s Guide to Surviving Her Twenties.  Now I can only imagine what you all must be thinking. Why would a 50-year-old want to read a book that is mostly geared toward the people in their twenties? Interesting question which deserves an interesting answer. I wondered the same thing until I started reading the book. Despite the book’s title this book is for everyone not just twenty year olds.

WHAT I THOUGHT OF THE BOOK:

This book was in my opinion fantastic. It was not only geared for our young people in their twenties but the points and ideas that were made could be used by everyone. The ideas about health, exercising, finances and much, much more. I found the book interesting and helpful to all who read it.

IS THE TILE RIGHT FOR THE BOOK?:

I will answer this question with a yes. Why is it right? I think the title is right even though this book applies to everyone the title The Smart Girl’s Guide to Surviving Her Twenties is right in my opinion because when you start young like in your twenties it help you continue the habits when you get older.

Love Is

badge-smLOVE 1Another one of those weeks where I racked my brain on what to do for Positive Sparks Monday then wouldn’t you know it, it came to me or should I say the words came to me little by little until they just poured out.

Then I thought would my poem Love Is be a good Positive Spark. My answer came to me right away and that little voice kept saying was of course your poem will work because how much more positive can you get than love.

So this week my Positive Spark is on Love.

LOVE 1

Love Is

By: Crystal Stewart

Love is a Mother and/or Father telling their children things will be alright when they aren’t sure themselves~Love is a parent cleaning and putting a band-aid on their child’s scrapes and then they kiss them on the forehead making things all better~Love is helping the elderly in the wintertime~Love is helping someone without expecting anything in return~Love is helping someone not as fortunate as you~Love is respecting the flag~Love is the compassion of a cat or dog~Love is a true friend~Love is someone willing to die for you and I to give us our freedom~Love is a mentor~Love is a Grandma giving you chocolate chip cookies~Love is having someone to talk to who is willing to listen and understands your problem~Love is a hug~love is a stuffed animal that can’t talk back to you.

So when you come across someone who needs your help, give them some love by helping them and/or just listen to them instead of walking on by.  Why? Please read the Bible verses below. That’s right, I said Bible verses. Trust me they are very helpful. The passage below is sometimes used for weddings.  A passage that was on a bookmark for my sister and brother-in-law’s wedding when they were married in April of 1992.

Love…

is patient and kind;

love is not jealous,

or conceited, or proud,

or provoked;

love does not keep

a record of wrongs;

love is not happy with evil,

but is pleased

with the truth.

Love never gives up;

its faith, hope

and patience

never fail.
